Brooke Chapman Memorial
Young Artist Gallery
Celebrating Creativity, Imagination, and Young Emerging Artists

About the Young Artist Gallery
The Brooke Chapman Memorial Young Artist Gallery was created to celebrate creativity, imagination, and artistic expression within the next generation of artists. Held alongside Art on the River, the gallery provides young creatives with the opportunity to experience their work displayed within a thoughtfully curated public exhibition setting designed to encourage confidence, exploration, and meaningful community connection through the arts.
Featuring artwork from children and emerging young artists across a variety of ages, styles, and mediums, the gallery highlights the importance of creative expression while helping cultivate an accessible and encouraging arts culture within a rural community.
The Young Artist Gallery reflects the belief that young artists deserve spaces where their creativity is valued, supported, and presented with care. Through exhibition opportunities, community engagement, artist recognition, and interactive experiences, the gallery continues to grow as an important part of the broader Art on the River experience.

The Young Artist Experience
The Brooke Chapman Memorial Young Artist Gallery is designed to give children and emerging young artists the opportunity to experience their creativity presented within a meaningful and encouraging public exhibition environment.
Rather than simply displaying artwork, the gallery is intentionally created to help young artists feel recognized, supported, and connected to a larger creative community. Artwork is presented throughout the exhibition space with artist names, titles, and mediums in order to create a true gallery experience that honors the individuality and imagination behind each piece.
Throughout the event, young artists and families will have the opportunity to experience:
-
Professionally displayed youth artwork
-
Community recognition and artist celebration
-
Esteemed judges and exhibition awards
-
Community favorite participation
-
Interactive gallery experiences
-
Creative exploration across multiple mediums and styles
-
Opportunities to view artwork from other young artists throughout the region
Selected works may also feature encouraging mentorship reflections and artist comments designed to inspire confidence, creativity, and continued artistic exploration.
The gallery experience is intended to encourage young artists to see themselves as valued creators while helping foster a lifelong connection to creativity, artistic expression, and community engagement through the arts.
As Art on the River continues to grow, the Young Artist Gallery remains an important part of its mission to cultivate accessible, meaningful, and community-centered arts experiences across generations.

Why It Matters
Creative opportunities can shape confidence, connection, and self-expression in lasting ways, especially for young artists. The Brooke Chapman Memorial Young Artist Gallery exists to create space where children and emerging creatives feel encouraged, valued, and inspired through meaningful artistic experiences within their own community.
In many rural communities, access to public arts opportunities can be limited. The Young Artist Gallery helps create an environment where creativity is celebrated openly and where young artists are given the opportunity to see their work displayed within a professionally presented exhibition setting alongside a larger contemporary arts event.
The gallery is about more than artwork on walls. It is about helping young people:
-
Feel confident sharing their creativity
-
Explore artistic expression without fear of perfection
-
Experience encouragement from the community
-
Build connection through the arts
-
Recognize the value of their own imagination and perspective
The involvement of respected arts leaders such as Andrea Pack, Executive Director of the Johnson Center for the Arts, and Brenda Campbell, Site Director of Amp Up Arts Troy, further reflects the importance of creating meaningful artistic opportunities for young creatives within rural communities. Their participation as judges helps encourage young artists while strengthening connections between community arts organizations and emerging creative voices throughout the region.
By creating opportunities for youth participation, mentorship, artistic recognition, and community engagement, the Young Artist Gallery helps cultivate a culture where creativity is seen as important, accessible, and worthy of support.
As Art on the River continues to grow, the Young Artist Gallery remains a meaningful reflection of the exhibition’s broader mission: building connection, encouraging creativity, and helping create lasting access to the arts within rural Alabama.

Encourage Creativity in the Next Generation
The Brooke Chapman Memorial Young Artist Gallery exists because creativity deserves to be encouraged, celebrated, and supported at every age. By creating opportunities for young artists to share their work within a meaningful public exhibition setting, the gallery helps cultivate confidence, imagination, and lasting community connection through the arts. Families, educators, community members, and local organizations are invited to help support and encourage the next generation of artists by attending, participating, and engaging with the exhibition.
